Students, Families, Friends and Guardians! Thank you so much for taking the time to explore our science class website!
Please do not hesitate to contact me for any reason at all, even if it's to share an interesting science topic. My goal this year and every year is that we all stay on the same page in regards to my expectations and students' performance. Email is the most efficient way for me to communicate outside of the classroom, but feel free to leave a message on my voicemail or ask me for a conversation in person.

About Mrs. Salter: Marine Biologist, Avid Outdoor Adventurer, Curious Traveler, Animal Lover and Science Teacher
I grew up in Orange County, but San Luis Obispo County has been my home for over 15 years now. I earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Management and Protection and a Master’s of Science in Biology at Cal Poly. My graduate research focused on fisheries management, specially I researched the survival of rockfish after experiencing barotrauma. Barotrauma is a condition experienced by some deep water fish that are brought quickly to the surface. Fish experiencing barotrauma often sustain serious injuries, and upon release, are unable to swim or dive back to depth. This can potentially lead to increased mortality rates, causing the population of rockfish to decrease, which can lead to other cascading effects. After graduate school, I became the Director of School Programs and Husbandry (taking care of animals) at the Central Coast Aquarium in Avila Beach. I found my love for teaching there and decided to get my teaching credential at Cal Poly because I knew I wanted to teach science! This is now my 5th year at Laguna and I cannot wait to share all of my scientific experiences with your kids as we explore the subject matter together!
